Claudiu Komartin was born in Bucharest, Romania, in 1983. His first poetry collection “Păpușarul și alte insomnii” (The Dollmaker or Player and other Insomnias) was published in 2003 and was followed by “Un anotimp în Berceni” (A Season in Berceni), “Cobalt”, “Dezmembrați” (The Dissected) and the anthology “Maeștrii unei arte muribunde” (Masters of a Dying Art). He received several prizes, including the Poetry Prize of the Romanian Academy and the Romanian PEN Prize. His collections of poems have been translated into German, Serbian, Turkish and Bulgarian. As an editor and publisher he has to date been responsible for a hundred books and anthologies, as a translator for eleven volumes of poetry and prose and as a theatre producer for two plays premièred in 2008 and 2010. Since 2009 he has been organizing the “Blecher Institute” reading group since 2009 and he is editor-in-chief of the cultural journal “Poesis International” (26 issues and more than 5,000 pages of poetry, prose and essays from all over the world) and the Max Blecher publishing house since 2010.
