Radu Vancu

Radu Vancu, born in Sibiu, Romania, in 1978, president of the Romanian PEN Club since 2019, is a Romanian poet, literary scholar and translator. He is an associate Professor in the Faculty for Literature and Art at the Lucian Blaga University in Sibiu, works for the cultural journals “Transilvania” (as editor-in-chief) and “Poesis International” (as editorial member) and is in charge of the Romanian section of the website of Poetry International. Since 2002 he has published seven poetry collections, a novel for children and a diary, which have brought him several awards in Romania and internationally. He had edited several anthologies of Modernist and contemporary Romanian poetry (including with Mircea Ivănescu, Claudiu Komartin and Marius Chivu). His work as a literary scholar included volumes of essays on Mihai Eminescu and Mircea Ivănescu and a study of the anti-humanist poetry of Modernism. He has translated novels and poetry into Romanian, mostly by John Berryman and W.B. Yeats, and is currently working on translating the four-volume edition of Ezra Pound edited by Horia-Roman Patapievici. He is a co-organiser of the international poetry festival “Poets in Transylvania” which takes place in Sibiu.
