Radna Fabias

Radna Fabias was born in 1983 in Curaçao where she grew up before moving to the Netherlands when she was 17. She studied at the University of the Arts in Utrecht and in 2018 published her first collection of poems, “Habitus”, about a woman between two worlds. The collection was immediately acclaimed by critics as a masterpiece, and Radna Fabias received for it almost every major poetry prize in the Netherlands and Belgium, including the C. Buddingh’ Prize for the Best First Collection, the Herman de Coninck Prize and the Grote Poëzieprijs. “Habitus” has been translated into English, French, Spanish and Arabic. The English version of the book is due to be published by Deep Vellum Publishing in 2021.

The poems surprise with their great stylistic range. Their impressive and detailed worlds of images transport at the time the opposite of the beautiful. They illuminate critically and ironically questions of identity, body, femininity, origin and destination and the role as a migrant in the Netherlands. Radna Fabias is the Dutch translator of the British poet Warsan Shire and the Nobel Prize winner Louise Glück.
