Nikola Madzirov

Nikola Madzirov, born in 1973 in Strumica (North Macedonia), in the family of war refugees from the Balkan Wars, is a poet, essayist and translator. His poems are translated into more than thirty languages. The American jazz composer and collaborator of Björk and Lou Reed, Oliver Lake has composed music based on his poems. Nikola Madzirov was poetry editor of the e-magazine Blesok and Diversity. He was granted several international fellowships. His poems and essays and reviews on his poetry appeared in magazines and newspapers such as Die Zeit, Der Spiegel, Tagesspiegel, Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Sinn und Form, American Poetry Review, Modern Poetry in Translation, London Times (TLS), World Literature Today, El País. Madzirov is translator of Yehuda Amichai, Li-Young Lee, Slavenka Drakulić, Vasko Popa, Georgi Gospodinov, Faruk Šehić, Ana Ristović, among others. He lives in Strumica.
